Empire Café, Muizenberg, and Knead

Looking tattier as time goes by, Empire is still favoured by locals. The menu has been stripped down to a few salads, a burger, pastas, etc. Service is harry-casual – “can I have the burger medium?” – “no, sir, the burger comes as is, pre-made.” The food is fry-up style, the coffee is surprisingly poor. For a better time, more freshness, and superior coffee – and with the location that can’t be beat – go to Knead on the beachfront. Muizenberg does seem to be finding it’s way to that long-awaited renaissance. And everybody seems to be surfing RSA.

Knead has the coffee and all the yummies to go with it… BUT their service is really bad – I continue to return (purely for the coffee) but am getting somewhat fed up with such consistently BAD SERVICE…. all very polite staff… but have no idea what service even means…. pity – as it would much such a difference

I agree. I have no idea where they source waiters from. A week ago I had a Knead waitor trying to convince me I am ” all over the place” when I ordered a second coffee. I got a very friendly and loving lecture on how bad a second cup would be. I do agree I have an ” all over the place look” at times, but please do not limit my coffee orders in future. Not in a friendly way.
