Both Constantia Uitsig & La Colombe do not offer the winter specials on a Sunday Lunch when the well heeled Contantia set shell out plenty dollars for fine fare.

And another, from the ex-Nose Wine Bar, now called “Chenin” in De Waterkant:
2 meals with wine for just R99

Jardine are also offering a winter special – three-courses for R180:

    - Bouillabaise with rouille and toasted bruschetta
    - Braised osso bucco with risotto milanese and gremolata
    - Chocolate hotpot with hazelnut ice cream

The Jardine winter special clearly changes: on the night we were there starter was caramelized onion soup (delicious but far too rich, more like marmalade), main was six-hour braised beef short rib with a marrow “crust” (amazingly tender meat, tasty but soft crust), and dessert a vanilla creme brulee with passion fruit ice cream (both competent, but a strange pairing).

Just returned from what is probably my best meal in Cape Town this year – at the Roundhouse – and just R180 for 6 courses. Not only was service friendly attentive and a pleasure – particularly with Vanessa taking on the unexpected role of maitre’d (in addition to executing devine puddings). Food was exceptional especially the main course of some ‘melting’ lamb with saucing of intense flavour and consistency. A triumph – what more can I say!

Chef Jacques de Jager at Grande Provence adds:
2 Courses R150 :3 Courses R195 :4 Courses R240 with a few supplements (R25) for expensive items used i.e.: foie gras and scallops.

The menu is available from Monday to Saturday (Sunday lunch is regular price: 2 Course R250 and 3 Course R280 and closed Sunday evening)

I completely agree, Michael. This really is the best winter special on offer in Cape Town!
