Ruined our New Years Eve, and ignores polite complaints | By Michael | Sunday, 23 January 2011
Geet advertised a special New Years Even buffet, with live music, and I selected it to take good friends for the festive occasion. When I called they specified the range of the buffet, and urged me to make a reservation as "these are usually booked out early".
The day before, I called back to confirm the reservations, and we chatted about the contents of the buffet, and it sounded excellent, at R 250 a head ( not cheap, but good value for what was promised ).
Though they had my cell number, nobody called to advise me that they had for some reason decided to cancel the buffet, so I had no chance of making alternative arrangements.
When we arrived, we were shown to a table and given the usual menus, and only when I persisted in asking, did they admit that there would be no buffet ( and no music ).
Now, if for some reason there were not enough bookings for it, they might have decided to cancel the buffet --- but it was their duty to inform me as soon as possible, so I could have made alternative plans. And as they failed to do that, they could have easily offered my table the equivalent of the content of the advertised buffet, at the same price, while serving others a la carte.
They did no such thing, did not apologise, and made no attempt to make up for what we had lost. This effectively amounted to a breach of promise. As a sickly and disabled person, I don't know how many more New Years I will be able to see in ; but Geet managed to ruin this occasion.
Oh, and they're so rude, they didn't even bother to reply when I politely e-mailed them to complain.
