If we weren't seated amongst a plethora of upper-class gastronomes and properly-mannered patrons, my introduction to La Pentola's unexpectedly original dishes would've left my mouthing hanging in surprised fascination.
La Pentola is a gastronomical experience par excellence. The cosy setting is filled with patrons who expect to be impressed and their menu delivers without fail. It takes a certain flair to offer some of the combinations which can be found here, but every one is both memorable and delicious. Without giving away any of their secrets, I really would not have expected Kirsch liqueur to appear in a certain dish the way that it did! Usually this approach tends to imply that a limit number of dishes are offered, but this establishment prides itself on an overwhelming number of dishes. The biggest disappointment lies in having to skip a few which all seem equally fascinating and worth sampling.
Of course, the service absolutely has to complement the food and again La Pentola manages to deliver the goods. In addition to being the perfect host and expert on the menu, our waitron entertained us by sharing her favourite place to spend a relaxing afternoon with a book and some chocolate mousse: La Pentola itself!
Hopefully we will be able to indeed sample a few more of the chef's unusual offerings, although this must be done in moderation, to ensure that our enjoyment of the restaurant's mystique remains intact.
