Totally transporting. I took a Free State boy here and it made him want to go to Ethiopia. The food is just fine by Ethiopian standards -- the injera, the wonderful sour crepe you sop up sauces with using your hands, is terrifically fluffy and sharp, but the meat mains taste of one-note curry and little vegetable side dishes don't come gratis as they should -- but the ambiance is amazing. Gorgeous three-story house full of Ethiopian murals that could kick-start a kid's imagination or a boring conversation; dim lighting; low and cozy wicker chairs to sit around intimate circular tables; a mini coffee ceremony with incense (lovely, not cheesy!) at the end. This restaurant is perfect for: funky birthday parties, vegetarians/vegans sick of not eating decently at sexy restaurants (the spinach dishes are great!), or magical second dates.
