When the server outshines the amazing food! | By Sanjay | Wednesday, 28 March 2012
I should start by saying that even though the food is brilliant, our super enthusiastic waiter outshone everything else. It was such a pleasure being served by a totally delightful individual who wanted to be there and serve. Even though we only managed to get bar stools against the wall, it had no effect on our evening. We started off with deep fried celery, followed by the steak tartare, prawns and pork belly. If i had space i would have kept on eating everything on the menu. If I had to be critical, i was not a fan of the churro with stem ginger dessert. i was however comparing the churro to the one i had at El Burro, which was what i was hoping for. I enjoyed the tapas style, especially with the wine by the glass offering and was stupendously happy to find Sequillo white by the glass and stupendously dissapointed that the red is only by the bottle. It was explained to me that the sequillo red is in short supply and hence it not being offered by the glass any longer. Overall, a superb evening and I cant wait to get back to taste everything i missed. What i really hope is that the service is as great as it was on our first visit as she really did set the standard for all future visits.
Brilliant addition to LDR empire | By Tony | Thursday, 09 February 2012
Adjoining the Test Kitchen is Luke's new offering, the Pot Luck Club. Again well thought out design right down to the china water glasses means this is an all round experience.
Food comes in 'tapas / small plates' style with a great range and i have to say all the dishes we had (and we had many) were excellent. Fish Taco's / Fillet / spicy kingklip stood out...
Great wine list and lots by the glass and not too heavy on price meant we drankw way too much! There's a trained eye behind the selection and we had Almenkerk Chardonnay (fresh citrus) and Mullineaux white (serious class)...
Service was OK - enthusiastic and relatively efficient - it'll have to be jacked up a bit though and the manager needs to introduce himself to everyone etc.
Overall top class and i think better suited to the image / vibe that Luke projects. This will be a huge success and deserves to be so...
