Well we must have picked a bad day | By david | Friday, 04 March 2011
We came for Sunday lunch so probably didn't see it at it's culinary or service best . Lots of family and corporate parties ( the Young Entrepreneurs Club were fun, parking their Porsches on the lawn) in a picnic style environment outside. Good quality food for this sort of thing and the location is memorable (Although our table didn't have much of a view despite booking a month earlier).
BUT. They've taken the "training service" thing a bit too far . There was just one person who had any sort of authority or oversight. None of the copious other staff could move without his shouted instructions. Eventually he looked close to breakdown and this lack of "cool" took the edge off what should have been the ultimate relaxed experience.
I think , being a party of 2 and being visitors, we took second place to the much larger parties on the terraces below.
A must for all the lovers of food! | By Melissa | Friday, 14 January 2011
The Roundhouse - what a special restaurant! The setting and view are magnificent, the service is outstanding and the hazelnut praline souffle is one of the most delicious desserts I've ever tasted!
I rave about this restaurant as if it were my own! | By Soraya | Saturday, 20 November 2010
For me a successful dining experience is when I walk away having had exceptional service allround which is a collection of moments like:staff that are non hanging at your table side who are able to read your body language from a distance, serve beautifully presented meals without stretching across the table, treats you like you are most welcome throughout the service, delivers a most memorable taste sensation through each course(it can be tricky with many courses and different taste buds) and leaves you feeling so passionate about your experience you talk about it as if it is your own restaurant and you want every person who appreciates all of the above to experience it too.I have dined there a few times and they definately are consistent in their delivery and I look forward to many more experiences at the Roundhouse. My number one restaurant thus far!
Dining at its best | By John | Sunday, 07 November 2010
I have just recently returned from yet another trip abroad. The nature of my business lends itself to plenty of dining. South African restaurants can really hold their heads high. Similar to the wines in SA, there are very few places in the world that offers such value at the high end. None more than The Roundhouse, I recently hosted my international business associates here and they were blown away. Firstly, the balance in the food was exquisite and secondly, the most refined service in this country. The Roundhouse seems to attract a lot of foreign Guests, and I can see why we often struggle to get a booking.
amazing dining experience! | By Kav | Wednesday, 20 October 2010
I visited the Roundhouse during their one year celebration, and i was quite impressed with the restaurant.
Its definitely one of the better restaurants in cape town, and quite reasonably priced.
I am a picky vegetarian, and I am usually not impressed with restaurants where the only option is the butternut/eggplant variations, with side vegetables and fruit salad dessert.
However, at the roundhouse, once I had mailed the manager as to my dietary requirements, she liasoned with the chef to ensure that i would have a 3 course meal -completely vegetarian and eggless.
And I would have a choice of vegetarian starters and mains...
When we arrived at the restaurant, the manager introduced himself and noted our names and where we would be seated…so when our orders arrived ,the waiters knew exactly as to who had ordered the meal, preventing the situation of the meat dish being placed before the vegetarian!!
Even though we were a big group, there were no delays in receiving our food.
The food was great, and it was paired with the appropriate wines.
The waiters were friendly and attentive.
I would without reservation recommend the restaurant. The food is exceptional and the staff give a lot of personal attention -which is sometimes lacking in other restaurants...
Best Dinner Ever | By Anushka | Wednesday, 20 October 2010
This is the only restaurant that I've been to where the waitron's knew each person by name and also knew their dietry constraints. This was definitely way past the 'extra mile' in my opinion. Now, I expect this from all restaurants but was never fortunate enough to experience this special touch again.
Apart from this special touch, the food was great too. Being with our group of friends if always a special experience - spending an evening together at The Roundhouse was definitely memorable.
