This charming little bistro serves good, traditional French fare (think foie gras and duck confit) in a lovely wooded setting. The estate wines are good and the Pinot Noir is exceptional. The service could use a little help though. Reporting a chip in a wine glass did not result in a fresh pour in a different glass. Rather, we were given a new glass into which we could pour the wine and glass chip? Immediately after our main courses were served, someone came and took our umbrella away to accommodate a group of dissatisfied diners who were complaining about a lack of shade. For their trouble, they received an apology along with a glass of champagne. What did we get for our trouble? A nice sunburn.
Our second visit to Mon Plaisir was a disappointment. Most of the dishes from the 3-course menu were missing something. Quail and green peas, that was it. Even two mains would have left me hungry. An unattractive pavé de boeuf with a bit of (not even hand cut) french fries, no 'garniture', salad or anything else. And kudu (?) steak with beetroot: finish and klaar. Don't think this is the right way to save on any winter special menu.
Mon Plaisir is probably the only French restaurant in Franschhoek. The 'cuisses de grenouilles' and the foie gras were again very tasty but the portions so tiny that you would feel guilty paying R 120 and R 135 Rand for these starters. The profiterolles saved my afternoon, but our friends were wondering why we had recommended this restaurant in the first place.
Pas de plaisir ŕ Mon Plaisir.

Read the review and decided to give it a try. I agree with the 'arrestingly eccentric' comment made on the guide. But, to be honest I'm glad we went. Probably the only authentic French restaurant in Franschhoek, but maybe a little too French if that makes any sense.
The sweet veal neck was awesome.
Not the kind of restaurant I'd eat at too often, but will definitely be back.
