Luckily there is 9th Avenue Bistro in Durban! | By Karine | Sunday, 13 May 2012
Every year during Indaba we get our 9th Avenue Bistro fix, and it is a good one!
Having 2 menus, one to please the locals and one for the more adventurous palate, 9th Avenue Bistro is most definitely the best restaurant in Durban.
The owners are awsome and look after their guests with much heart and passion.
My favourite dish the salmon tartare presented on a carved wooden plate with fine fine chips and a delicious crunchy salad.
can't wait for next year's fi!
A fine farewell to 2010... | By Paulo | Saturday, 15 January 2011
Agreed, the shopping centre requires masses of imagination and a fair amount of tipple to resemble anything even remotely worthy of calling a 'view', so with nowhere else to look but into each others eyes, dinner for two was both conversation rich and plate-focussed. The winelist was perused, but bypassed in favour of a refreshing cocktail. A good start. Bread served warm, although lacking in crust, with olive oil & balsamic 'mixed' tableside. The tasting menu looked a fair option with good value, however the day's linefish sent us back to the a la carte. A fine duck confit tartlet was well executed and the stuffed calamari with crispy pork cheek & black beans took me straight back to Saturday lunch in Sao Paulo, Brasil, and the unforgettable feijoada (sans the squid that is). Great flavour. Duo of duck to follow was well cooked and presented, and an outstanding pork neck steak served pink (thank you very much), took one for the swine in it's ambitious battle versus madame bovine. Sorbet selection was less than Italian in quality, whilst the creme brulee could've done with a tad more creme. Decent espresso to round it all off. A wonderful meal to end of 2010, certainly recommendable.
