Much less than what I was expecting | By Yolanda | Wednesday, 04 January 2012
The ambience is great - spectacular views on a brilliant summer day set the table for great things. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the food which lacked exitement. Although the food tasted good it was somewhat ordinary - no explotions of flavours, no real wow factor. It was however presented well on the plate. The real problem was the service or the lack thereoff! The waiter was not well informed of the menu and on several occasions could not provide answers to basic questions. After serving our mains, she dissappeared and after several attempt to get service we finally managed to order desserts. The cleaning of the table was slow and often led to a crowded table with dirty plates and glasses. When I opted for the soufle, the waiter highlighted a 20 min preparation time and I decided on a dessert that could be prepared faster. I could have stuck to the soufle as our desserts arrived 35 min later!!

Service at Jordan | By Yolanda | Wednesday, 04 January 2012
Service was very bad! Did not see our waiter once between main course and dessert. Had to call for attention twice!! Food was dissapointing, ok but not spectacular.

Disappointed | By Andries | Friday, 21 October 2011
We had lunch on a Saturday recently. Great venue, friendly staff. Limited lunch menu to be expected. Starters were good, mains (steak strips) were average – not well balanced tastes. It can be termed “brown food”; desserts were poor. Panna cotta should never be with that little cream and so overpowered by very acidic rhubarb and tinned strawberries. The toffee apple (deconstructed) is a good idea, but poorly executed. Based on this experience I struggle to see how it can be nr 4 on SA’s list.

Lovely Summer Lunch | By david | Friday, 04 March 2011
It may have been the beautiful sunny day; or being put in a good mood by the partcularly laid back and friendly Jordan tasting room; but we found this the most enjoyable of the 3 Stellenbosch winery restaurant lunches we had in January (Overture, Terroir, Jordan). They were all good but Jordan seemed the most comfortable in it's skin. That was mainly because the short menu of relatively simple dishes were clearly well within Mr Jordan's comfort zone. No barriers being pushed, just modest sized portions of well executed food. Very attractive to the European taste. Views, service and ambience on the outdoor deck were equally spot on. Dinner in the inside dining room may have been different but we had none of the bad service experiences described elsewhere. Highlights were gaspacho and sole. 3 course set lunch and plenty of wine by the glass for 2 came to R734

Why so unfriendly??? | By Karine | Wednesday, 23 February 2011
We love the food, the wine and the views at Jordan with George Jardine but will not patronise anymore because of George Jardine being so unfriendly.
When you have an open kitchen you must assume it and be friendly to your customers.

Maitre d' ruins lunch | By Dewald | Monday, 13 December 2010
This was my 2nd visit to Jordan but sadly also my last. Had a delicious lunch with 4 friends - food was amazing, venue is superb and our waitress was charming. Unfortunately the attitude of the maitre d' ruined the entire day when he decided "at his own discretion" not to serve our table another bottle of wine and actually got involved in argument with one of my fellow diners! Very unprofessional and in stark contrast to Rust en Vrede where we often dine and always experience exceptional service.

It just takes one person to ruin a splendid restaurant | By Marc | Monday, 13 December 2010
It sends out a worrying message when you have a bad experience twice, with the same person, within a matter of weeks. George Jardine's cooking at Jordan is undeniably good, first class in every aspect and hugely enjoyable.
Unfortunately, this enjoyment can so easily be ruined by a member of staff who is too arrogant to politely look after customers, particularly when this individual is the Manager/Maitre d'. On my first visit, we were told after commenting that we had waited 45 minutes for our main course (way too long in any circumstances), that the kitchen was busy - in a very abrupt manner. Later, by way of apology 3 glasses of dessert wine were sent over which I did appreciate. I put the whole issue down to inexperience and decided to give it another go. On second visit, having enjoyed a long and delicious lunch one of my guests ordered another bottle of wine from a waiter. We were completely horrified when the Manager (not our wonderful waitress) returned to the table and said this was not possible; not because they were closing (although we were the last there) but "it is at our discretion". When questioned he said he had heard that the rest of the table did not want any more to drink and therefore became judge & jury! An argument followed resulting in a very bad and bitter end to an otherwise delicious lunch. My fellow guests and I are regular diners at most of the Country's Top Ten restaurants but sadly none of us will be returning to Jordan.

Fantastic Food | By Lloyd | Monday, 06 December 2010
Fantastic meal in a fantastic setting.
What a pity about the service.
We were drinking Chardonnay and ordered another bottle. The new bottle was opened and poured reseulting in a chard / sauv bl mixture. (the new bottle was not presented to us) The waitress was not happy with us for not accepting what we had not ordered.
Not only with regard to the wine but service generally was poor.
I will go back because the food is so good whilst hoping the service will be sorted out

At the wrong place at the wrong time? | By Cobus | Friday, 03 December 2010
As first impressions go, Jordan Restaurant did not fair well when we arrived for lunch earlier this week. We arrived ten minutes early and, after requesting the Maitre d' whether we can have a glass of Champagne on the terrace, were directed to Jordan's tasting room? Jordan does not make a sparkling wine - can we expect the Maitre d' to know this? Hoping to receive better service after this poor start, we were again disappointed with a waitron that did not understand the menu, could not explain the different dishes and was clearly swamped with too many clients to serve. Should you wait 45 (and more) minutes between courses? We found the menu uninspiring and the choices limited - the highlight being the souffle that was as near to perfect as can be. The rest of the food arrived luke warm with the main courses served on cold plates! But it was when one of the ladies at the table next to ours toppled backwards from the balcony (no railing) and landed unceremoniously in the flower bed on her back that they really showed how much they care. Although they took note of the incident, not one of the management even approached the poor lass to offer assistance. A worthy member of the top restaurants in the Cape - I don't think so.

Top-3 in the Cape | By Luc | Sunday, 07 November 2010
This is a big one on the Cape food scene. The views may be fantastic but it's the food that counts and that's why we enjoyed this one so much. We rank it in our personal top-3 in the Cape together with La Colombe and Grande Provence. We had beet salad and seared tune to start and calf's liver and oak smoked duck breast as mains. All very tasty, fresh and innovative. Also liked the waiter's story about the veggies and herbs that they source from their own farm as well as the neighbours like De Waal. Had chocolate soufflé with crème anglaise which was impressive and light but the choc didn't really show. So a little disappointing. But all together a wonderful lunch experience and excellent but informal service.
